Another school year begins!

Lily, started K4(kindergarten 4) on Tuesday. It went well! Sorry, no pictures of her first day this year, as the memory card in our camera mysteriously disappeared a week or so ago. Very suspicious. . .  Anyway, just picture her like this except a bit taller and with shoulder length hair- we actually got a mommy and me cut at Cartoon Cuts over the weekend. It was actually a bit awkward because when it was time for my hair to be cut, Will took the girls to look for school shoes and I was left sitting there by myself watching Dora the Explorer. I got a few strange glances(haha), but oh well, at least my hair is finally cut! But I digress.
One really great thing was that Lily was actually keen on the idea of being dropped off in the kiss and ride area at school so that I didn't have to park and walk in with her (and Sophie)- Huge time saver! I could tell she was loving being doted on by the older girls and sweet Mrs. Lanford who ushered her into school, so I didn't feel a bit guilty either:)
When I picked her up from school she was in a very good mood (even shared her leftover teddy grahams with Sophie) and eager to tell me how she had learned what God did on each day of creation. She was espcially fascinated by the earth pushing itself up from underneath the sea to create land on day number 3, I think?- better ask her again tomorrow:) When I asked her what her favorite part of the day was she quickly replied, "Nap time because Mrs. Estevez had some beautiful sleepy time music and my mat was cozy". Yikes!- what happened to my daughter! Her next favorite part of the day was coloring. Sounding more like my daughter, but I felt the need to ask again just to make sure. Her third and final best part of the day was eating- that's my Lily!
Well, here's to a great year!

We moved! part 2

Not only have we been enjoying our new home, but we've had a lot of fun in our new community too!
Because we live in the mason neck region of Lorton, we live close to the Potomac river and luckily have access to this cute little beach in our neighborhood. Lily and Sophie absolutely love spending time here, although they could live without the bugs!

We've also gotten out to Pirate's cove at Pohick regional park a few times, which is just minutes away. While, this isn't exactly what I would call a water park, it is a very cool pool nonetheless and a whole lotta fun:)

and I've finally gotten to buy the girls a little inflatable pool to play in in the backyard. Brings back fun summer memories!

"Lily, sit down right now please!"

"LILY! NOW!!"

"Oh bummer, mom is so mean!"

Reccenter tennis lessons- outcome tbd:)

OK, I'm pretty sure that Lily was not destined to be a tennis prodigy, as coordination, unfortunately, has always been her downfall. Regardless, she looks pretty darn cute while she is working so hard to follow instructions from her tennis instructor:) and I think Lily is learning a lot! I think the instructor is learning a lot too, BTW- as, you can see in the first lesson, they are using real tennis balls and in the next lesson they used primarily bean bags;)

I must say, she's got good form.

Here are a couple of videos for your viewing pleasure:
In this first one, she was supposed to run up, put the bean bag on her racquet and then run back without dropping it. Well, she didn't drop it- he he!

She did better at this exercise. Its called walk/stop the dog.

Water breakthroughs!

Wow! We had an amazing evening at the pool!! First of all, Sophie actually got in the pool!!! She started out on daddy's lap (screaming at the top of her lungs at first, of course;) ) and then was so proud of herself that she even wanted to wear the water wings to "jump" into Will's arms. Take a look:

Onto the next amazing order of breakthrough business: Lily swam without her water wings on in 3.5 feet deep water for the first time ever! Though she has been able to swim in very shallow water, until today she was too afraid to attempt this in the 3.5 feet deep water at our pool. BTW- Bebop you were right, peer pressure did the trick!- Cousin Paige visited yesterday and her fearlessness in the water totally inspired Lily (more pictures of their day to come soon). Here she is swimming from ledge to ledge in the 3.5 feet deep:)

This is one very determined little girl! Not 10 minutes later, here she is jumping into the water and swimming back to daddy:) *notice how she breaks into a little doggy paddling briefly during her swim- you have no idea how hard that has been for her to get, in terms of coordination(remember that one legged kick from last summer:) )

Lily the fish

A lot has changed since last summer for Lily. She went from being petrified of the deep end of the pool(anything over 3 feet) to swimming happily around the entire pool with her little water wings.Oh yeah, she also kicks with both legs now. Phew- that was a bit worrisome. Here's a video of her enjoying a leisurely swim on her back.
(Notice Sophie sitting poolside with her feet in the water. Yep, that's about as far as she'll get into the "big pool". Oh well, maybe next year!)

and here is Lily's latest achievement: jumping into the pool!
